Na Alemanha ocidental em 1965 os irmãos e guitarristas Michael Schenker e Rudolf Schenker decidem formar uma banda com os amigos Klaus Meine (Vocalista) Lothar Heimberg (baixo) e Wokfgang Dziony (Bateria) a banda gravou uma fita demo e conseguiram o seu primeiro álbum em 1972 ele se chamava “Lonesome Crow” apesar do repentino sucesso que o álbum fez, Lothar Heimberg e Dziony resolvem deixar a banda e pouco tempo mais tarde Michael Schenker torna-se guitarrista da banda londrina UFO.
Sozinhos Rudolf e Klaus resolvem chamar o guitarrista “Urich Roth”, mais conhecido como Uli Jon Roth que por sua vez convida o então baterista “Jürgen Rosenthal” e o baixista “Francis Buchholz” para completarem o grupo, a banda continua tocando e logo assina contrato com a RCA que lança o segundo disco “Fly To The Raimbow”, em 1974. No ano seguinte o baterista “Rosenthal” deixa a banda para servir o exercito alemão, “Rudy Lenners” assume a bateria e o álbum “In Trance” faz sucesso em toda a Europa.Em 1976 gravaram “Virgin Killer” que é um álbum clássico em sua carreira, “Lenners” descobre que tem um problema no coração e deixa a banda a fim de se tratar, em seu lugar é convidado “Herman Rarebell”, que foi indicado por Michael Schenker. Em 1977, foram para o estúdio novamente gravar o álbum “Taken by Force”, e em 1978 embarcam pela primeira vez para o Japão, onde fizeram três grandes shows, essa passagem pelo oriente ficou registrada no clássico álbum duplo ao vivo “Tokyo Tapes” que marcou a saída do guitarrista Uli Jon Roth.
Em 1979 a banda integra “Matthias Jabs” para assumir a guitarra, no mesmo ano lançam o álbum “Lovedrive”, no ano seguinte a banda de hannover lançou o álbum “Animal Magnetism” que emplacou o hit “The Zoo”. O sucesso já era presente quando Klaus descobre que tinha nódulos em suas cordas vocais, imediatamente ele se retira da banda para fazer um tratamento que duraria aproximadamente um ano.
No ano de 1982 os Scorpions entram novamente nos estúdios para gravação do álbum “Blackout”, caracterizado pelo vocal mais nasalizado de Klaus, o que lhe permitiu alcançar notas mais graves.
A banda não tinha muito notoriedade nos Estados Unidos, mas depois de lançarem músicas como “Still Loving You” e “Rock You Like a Hurricane” conseguiram o feito de estar entre as dez melhores bandas do mundo. A banda fez sucesso até o ano de 2010 quando resolveram parar de tocar e se aposentar após longos 40 anos de sucessos.
