O W.A.S.P. surgiu no início dos anos 80, tendo como líder e criador o vocalista Blackie Lawless, que após algumas tentativas de sucesso com outras bandas, das quais uma se chamava Sister, conheceu o guitarrista Chris Holmes e deu início aos trabalhos que o levariam ao sucesso. A sigla W.A.S.P. sempre provocou dúvidas e até hoje não se sabe ao certo seu significado, para muitos representa "White Anglo-Saxon Protestant", para outros "We Are Sexual Perverts", além de vespa, que é tradução da palavra para o português.Tendo como formação, Lawless no baixo, Chris Holmes e Randy Piper nas guitarras e Tony Richards na bateria, este álbum trouxe músicas que viriam a se tornar grandes clássicos da banda, tocadas em todos os shows, como 'I Wanna Be Somebody', 'L.O.V.E. Machine' e 'Sleeping (In The Fire)', bem como a música 'Animal (F*** Like a Beast)'. A banda iniciou sua primeira turnê e obteve muito sucesso, dividindo os palcos com o então desconhecido Metallica.Importante se faz mencionar, que apesar das diversas mudanças na formação e na musicalidade da banda ao longo da carreira, o W.A.S.P. nunca se deixou levar por modismos que constantemente surgem nos EUA, sobrevivendo ao surto do Glam Rock nos anos 80, do grunge no início dos anos 90 e agora recentemente da música eletrônica, graças à qualidade do líder Blackie Lawless, que trabalha acreditando nos seus objetivos e na sua música, independentemente de críticas e perseguições.
